Who we are

The Ruscombe Brook Action Group (RBAG) aims to bring about the restoration of an important local stream to its former unpolluted natural state.

The brook has its source in the Ruscombe springs above Stroud, Gloucestershire in the UK's picturesque South Cotswolds region. It flows first through farmland, then Puckshole and Hamwell Leaze before issuing into the Stroudwater canal below the Cainscross Lawns Pond.

Over the last several years, the stream's condition has been deteriorating to the the extent that we now have great concerns about incidents of raw sewage contaminating the brook and occasional flooding.

We are keen to work together with other interested parties and authorities in finding solutions.

To this end we are currently enagaged in discussions with representatives from different groups towards forming a 'Partnership of Interest' for the brook and its corridor.

Here you will find information about
    Ruscombe Brook:

  • its characteristics and history - in better times - a beautifully clear stream, teaming with wildlife and providing water to the Cainscross Lawns Pond and the canal. See here for an expanding collection of photos, past and present.
  • why RBAG was started, and the state of the brook in Aug'05 - badly polluted - an environmental hazard to wildlife, the farming food chain and other users whose properties border the stream
  • how it fits into the local environment, and particularly associated water courses like the strategic Stroud canal restoration project (download Stroud District Council report, with interesting photographs)
  • our aims for restoring it to health - how to get involved in helping
